Stakeholders Charge Hospitals On Planning, Innovation

Stakeholders on Friday urged government hospitals to prioritise strategic planning, innovation, and technology to improve healthcare delivery in Lagos State and beyond.
They spoke at the 2025 Strategic Management Retreat organised by Orile Agege General Hospital (OAGH) at Orchid Hotel, Lekki, Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the two-day retreat has the theme, ‘Re-inventing Healthcare Excellence: Balancing Innovation, People and Sustainability’.
Dr Atinuke Onayiga, Chairperson of the Lagos State Health Service Commission, stressed the role of planning and innovation in strengthening patient care.
Onayiga said strategic plans provide a framework for aligning hospital vision and values, adding that such plans must focus on quality patient care.
“If you fail to plan, you will fail woefully,” she said, noting that hospitals must reassess achievements and challenges to move forward.
She added that well-executed plans help hospitals stay ahead of the curve and improve services for patients across communities.
Onayiga commended Orile Agege General Hospital for its strategic programmes, including its ‘Back to School Health Initiative.’
Similarly, Dr Adedamola Dada, Chief Executive of Redeemer’s Health Village, said hospitals must adopt deliberate planning processes to enhance clinical excellence.
Dada, the keynote speaker, said public facilities must pursue continuous improvement through innovation, teamwork, and sustainability.
“Having a strategic plan will always put a hospital ahead,” he said, adding that such planning is vital for excellence across the country.
He praised the hospital for organising the retreat to re-invent and strengthen its services for patients in Lagos.
Dada described the facility as “one of the best state-owned hospitals,” citing its long-standing planning culture and commitment to improvement.
He urged other general hospitals in Lagos to understudy OAGH to enhance their service delivery and patient outcomes.
Also, Dr Taiwo Oluyemi, Medical Director of OAGH, said the retreat provided a platform for reflection, planning, and cross-functional collaboration.
She said the programme aligns with the hospital’s mandate to balance innovation, staff welfare, and environmental and financial sustainability.
She added that the hospital will continue to strengthen service quality, operational resilience, and long-term healthcare impact across the state.
“This retreat is centred on advancing healthcare through innovation, improved care, and sustainability,” she said.
Oluyemi said departmental leaders were brought together to generate bold ideas and design strategic plans for 2026.
She added that the hospital is intentional about transformation and invited sector experts to guide its path forward. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
