Sound Sultan: Temple company keeps singer’s legacy five years after death
Five years on, the memory of Olanrewaju Abdul-Ganiu Fasasi aka Sound Sultan, continues to inspire reflection and prayer.
As it has embarked on since the passing of Sound Sultan, the Temple Company led by Idris Olorunnimbe, convened family, friends and colleagues for the fifth edition of the annual Ramadan lecture and iftar held in remembrance of the iconic entertainer.
The solemn event featured Quranic recitations and reflections on the entertainer’s life, faith and enduring legacy.
Delivering a sermon entitled, ‘Distraction’, Islamic scholar Sheikh Abdur-Rahman Ahmad emphasised the need for intentional living and spiritual refocus.
“On a daily basis, we are overwhelmed by noise and distractions that pull us away from the reason Allah created us,” Ahmad said.
“We are created to worship Allah, yet many of us end up worshipping other things like status, desires and self-interest.”
He admonished the congregation to press the brake, pause and reflect on how they are living their lives.
The event was also graced by Nigerian entertainers, who also took time to eulogise the late Sound Sultan. Among those in attendance were Lateef Adedimeji, Tobi Bakre and VJ Adams alongside music executives and other public figures.
Speaking at the gathering, Adedimeji described the late Sound Sultan as talented and devoted to his faith.
In his words, “He lived as a Muslim and died as a Muslim. The best we can do for him is to continue to support him with prayer, so that Allah grants him mercy and places Barakah upon him in the grave.”
On his part, Bakre said that he missed Sound Sultan’s for his greatness, simplicity and humanity.
“Talking about him is like talking about an angel. We miss him deeply,” he added.
For VJ Adams, the late entertainer was ‘an incredibly talented musician and a genuinely good human being.’
Also present was the late Sound Sultan’s sister, Oluwatoyin Fasasi, who expressed gratitude for the continued support shown to the family since his passing.
She thanked The Temple Company’s Chief Executive, Idris Olorunnimbe, for sustaining initiatives to preserve Sound Sultan’s legacy and support his loved ones.
The event concluded with iftar, as attendees broke their fast and shared quiet moments of reflection in honour of the late Afrobeats icon.
