PTAD: Pensioners will receive February pensions this week

The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has reassured pensioners under the Defined Benefit Scheme that their February 2026 pensions will be paid this week.

This is coming following pensioners enquiring why they are yet to be paid their February monthly pension.

The Directorate in a notice, urged pensioners to remain calm as arrangements for prompt disbursement has already been concluded.

In the message, PTAD explained that the delay was due to the fact that the pension funds for February had not yet been released for payment.

PTAD said it understands the importance of timely pension payments and has already put all necessary mechanisms in place to ensure that disbursement begins immediately the funds become available.

“Kindly note that the pension funds for February 2026 are yet to be released,” the Directorate said.

“Be assured that all necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure prompt processing of payments immediately the funds are made available.”

PTAD also clarified the payment process, reminding pensioners that monthly pensions are not paid directly by the Directorate but are remitted into beneficiaries’ accounts through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

According to the Directorate, the apex bank transfers the pension funds directly into individual pensioners’ bank accounts once the funds are released into the payment system.

“Please be reminded that pension payments are remitted by the Central Bank of Nigeria directly into individual pensioners’ bank accounts, a process over which PTAD has no direct control,” the notice stated.

Providing further reassurance, PTAD’s Head of Corporate Communications, Olugbenga Ajayi, told our correspondent that the Directorate is optimistic the payments will be processed soon.

Speaking in an exclusive telephone conversation, Ajayi said the agency is already prepared to begin payment processing as soon as the funds are made available.

He expressed hope that pensioners will receive their February pensions within the week.

According to him, PTAD remains committed to ensuring that retirees under its mandate continue to receive their pensions in a transparent and efficient manner.

The Directorate manages pension payments for thousands of federal retirees under the Defined Benefit Scheme, including pensioners from treasury-funded Ministries, Departments and Agencies as well as other legacy pension departments.

Over the years, PTAD has introduced several reforms aimed at strengthening pension administration and ensuring that legitimate retirees receive their entitlements promptly. These include biometric verification exercises, payroll clean-ups and improved digital documentation processes designed to enhance accountability in pension management.

The Directorate also maintains regular communication with pensioners through its official platforms to keep them informed about developments relating to their pensions.

PTAD thanked pensioners for their patience and understanding, reiterating its commitment to the welfare of retirees who dedicated many years of service to the country.

With the processing arrangements already in place, the Directorate said pensioners can expect payments to commence once the funds are released into the system.
