Parents Call Out Teachers Over Homework Given To Students

Say it is above children, we are tired of doing homeworks
It has become a common norm now to see parents take to their social media to rant over the way and types of homework given to their children from school.
Some of these parents complained that some of the homework is beyond the level of their kids and as a result, it is left for them to handle while others complained that they as parents cannot handle some of the homework as well.

A parent took to her Tik Tok handle named For Mama Annie 01 and said: “I am tired of doing assignments every day. I am done doing assignments every day.
“If you are a teacher or a principal, this video is for you. Not all parents are educated, some of us want to educate our children because we are not educated and some of us went to school but what we were taught in school is not the same thing you are teaching this generation today. Stop sending these children with homework every day.”
She said when they bring it to her, she will send them to their father and the father will send them back to her saying he is busy.
“I am also busy and have things to do. You will send children home with homework every day, not even easy subjects but with maths and tell them to come and find X, where do you expect us to find X. We will take our time to help the children do the homework, when they bring it to school you will say it is wrong,” she said.
“If you are looking for a way to tell these children that we don’t have sense, do it and stop cutting corners. Just imagine me sitting down to do homework with my child and he takes it to school and they tell the child that the answers are not correct, how do you expect my child to be looking at me and some of us told them how we used to take 1st position in class, please teachers stop doing this.
“If you want us to come back to school and learn just say it, I am tired of doing this, we send this children to you so that you can teach them in a way they will be able to do their homework, but every day you send them home with homework and you cannot even give history that we can browse about but you will send them with maths.”
“If you must give them homework, do it at weekends so that we can look for some uncles and aunties to help them do it. So Mr Principal I am not doing any more assignments I am tired,” Mama Annie said.
Another parent, Iamxpectedofficial also call out teachers in his children’s school, saying: “This goes to teachers of GMS, please I am tired of doing homework with my kids every day. I have things to do. “Unah for don tell me to come back to school to join unah, either to begin learn or know the reason I will be doing homework with my pikin every day.”
“I have other things to do. The reason why I sent them to school is for you to teach them and give them homework that they can actually come back and do by themselves. Not every day I have things to do and I will just come and sit down and be doing homework. Unah think say I no get wetin I dey do? Abi am I doing the work for you people? Please, I’m tired of doing homework,” he said.
The parent who stressed his tiredness said he has to browse some of the howeworks to be able to do them.
He said: “Unless people will start paying me for doing homework and if not, you’re supposed to teach them something that they will be able to do.”
Another parent with the handle, Titi of_LDS said: “ Na my pikin dey for your class, na me you dey give assignment. Na our pikin dey your class na me and him papa you dey give assignments, unah go tach pikin 2+2 for class , dey give am quadratic equation assignment wey e go take come house come stress him papa and him mama. We gather dey the class? I follow am go the class? If na watin you teach am for class you give am for assignment, e go need and my help?”
She further said: “Na we go pay the school fees and na we’ go still do the assignments. You no go give am wetin e go fit do by himself. Just said that we should come and be resuming in the school. As we dey bring the pikin, make we self, enter the school, sit down for the class, join them now. Na another thing unah go teach pikin na another thing unah go put for assignments.”
She complained that the assignments are harder than what they teach the children in class, saying, “I don’t understand that one.”
A teacher who wants to be identified as Emmanuel said the trend is what he met on the ground as a means to keep children busy so they don’t play too much and forget to study.
Reacting, the Chairman & Proprietor of Micray Progressive School, Michael Sule said: “Yes it is true some teachers don’t know how to give homework, they don’t give the child homework they give the parents of that child homework.
“Telling nursery one pupils to write 1 to 1,000, I found that in my son’s textbook. Children that could not write one to 10, they are asked from the textbook to write 1 to 1, 000,” he said.
“If a child cannot do the academic activities as class work it should never be given to the child as homework or you are just giving the parents work to do that is the obvious fact and it is completely wrong for teachers to give a child 20 mathematical homework to solve that is too much for the child. If the child understands two or three questions for homework, it is okay,” he said.
“As a parent that has kids and proprietor that owns a school though my opinion may be subjective but personally, I am ensuring that my teachers teach a child and give class work, they can now give home from their teaching because we have room for evaluation of homework given to kids.
For Yussuf Oriyomi, the Chairman of Voyage International School, it is an issue that involves the parents and the school coming up with an agreed Homefun formula through the PTA platform.
“They can agree only 2 subjects per in weekdays and 3 subjects for the weekends or whatever works for both parties. It’s a collaboration that’s intended to give a desired outcome,” he said.
