Women are playing a critical role in driving innovation, operational efficiency and sustainable growth across Nigeria’s maritime industry, the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola, has said.
Marking the 2026 International Women’s Day (IWD), Mobereola commended female professionals across sea-going, regulatory, technical and administrative segments of the maritime sector, noting that their contributions continue to shape the industry’s development and competitiveness.
In a goodwill message themed “Give to Gain,” the NIMASA chief said the resilience, leadership and professionalism of women have helped strengthen the sector’s capacity for innovation and progress.
He said: “I celebrate your strength, expertise, and invaluable contributions to our maritime industry.
“The theme #GiveToGain reflects your daily impact. Through your professionalism, leadership, and resilience across sea-going, regulatory, technical, and administrative roles, you give excellence and our sector gains progress, innovation, and sustainable growth.”
The NIMASA boss noted that women’s expanding presence in maritime governance, safety regulation and technical operations reflects a gradual shift toward a more inclusive and productive industry.
He therefore reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to fostering a maritime environment where women can advance into leadership and decision-making positions across the sector.
“I celebrate your strength, expertise, and invaluable contributions to our maritime industry,” Mobereola said
He further reiterated the agency’s support for policies and initiatives that enable female professionals to grow within the maritime value chain.
According to him, NIMASA remains committed to “a maritime industry where every woman is empowered to lead and thrive.”
