NIA trains underwriters on NIIRA 2025, compulsory container insurance

The Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) has trained underwriters on the Compulsory Container Insurance provisions contained in Section 203 of the Nigeria Insurance Industry Reform Act (NIIRA) 2025.

Speaking at the opening session of the two-day workshop held in Lagos, the Director-General of the NIA, Mrs. Bola Odukale, underscored the critical role of insurance in national development, noting that a well-regulated and legally backed insurance industry is essential for economic growth, investor confidence and public protection.

Mrs. Odukale urged participants to take full advantage of the training, stressing that the knowledge acquired would not only strengthen their professional capacity but also ensure effective implementation of compulsory insurance provisions for the benefit of the economy.

No fewer than 40 underwriters involved in container insurance are participating in the workshop.

Facilitators at the training include Director at the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mrs. Margaret Ogbonnah; Controller I (Technical) at the NIA, Mr. Soji Oni; and Chief Executive Officer of Ironlink Communications, Mr. Owolabi Longe, among others.
