My life was easier with multiple women – Akon

Senegalese-American singer Akon has said his life was easier when he had multiple women around him. 

The 53-year-old record producer discussed his past relationships during an appearance on The Shade Room. 

He said his earlier romantic lifestyle was marked by ease and excitement.

According to him, he no longer experiences those feelings in a monogamous relationship. 

“My life was very much easier when I had multiple women surrounding me, but me being with just one woman isn’t just exciting,” he said.

When asked about his current relationship status and how many women he is involved with, Akon declined to give details.

“I plead the fifth; it will be incriminating to answer,” he said.

In September 2025, Tomeka Thiam, Akon’s wife, filed for divorce after 28 years of marriage.

She cited irreconcilable differences. The union produced a daughter named Journey. 

Akon, whose real name is Aliaune Badara Thiam, has been open about his belief in polygamy.

In a 2022 interview on The Zeze Mills Show, he confirmed he is the father of nine children.
