Foundation Identifies Urgency For Functional Equipment For Neonatal Care

A non-governmental organisation, the Joyce Ojemudia Foundation (JOF), says there is urgent need for functional medical equipment in public hospitals to manage neonatal challenges and reduce cases of neonatal mortality in the country.
Ms Joyce Ojemudia , Founder of the foundation, made the assertion in a statement on Monday.
To help mitigate the situation, she said the organisation would be unveiling its operations in Lagos, with a focus on addressing neonatal mortality and infertility challenges in Nigeria.
According to her, the unveiling will highlight the foundation’s expanded vision to support vulnerable families and improve access to critical healthcare service
She said its establishment was inspired by her personal experience, having endured years of infertility challenges.
The challenges included multiple medical procedures and pregnancy losses, before turning the experience into an advocacy platform.
Ojemudia noted that its intervention in 2015 to provide urgent neonatal support, including access to an incubator for a premature baby, underscored the urgent need for functional medical equipment in public hospitals.
She identified inadequate neonatal facilities, particularly incubators for premature babies, as a major gap contributing to infant mortality in the country.
She said the unveiling would serve as a call to action for stakeholders, including corporate organisations, healthcare professionals, government representatives, non-governmental organisations, and the media, to collaborate in tackling the challenges.
The programmes will target public hospitals lacking essential neonatal equipment, premature babies in need of advanced care, couples facing infertility, and vulnerable children requiring educational support.
Ojemudia emphasised the organisation’s commitment to providing practical medical assistance, supporting affected families, and building partnerships to scale impact nationwide.
She described the unveiling as an opportunity to mobilise support toward saving lives and strengthening families across Nigeria. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
