Firm unveils renewable energy solution to address incessant power cuts

In a strategic push to tackle Nigeria’s chronic electricity shortfall, DMCA Energy Nigeria Limited has launched a renewable energy technology that promises uninterrupted power supply for up to 35 years, offering a potentially game-changing solution to one of the country’s most persistent economic challenges.

The innovation, known as the Principle of Converted Regenerative Device (PCRD), was formally unveiled at a media briefing in Lagos, where the company outlined its plan to deploy the technology nationwide under a cost-efficient and environmentally friendly power delivery model.

Speaking at the event, DMCA Energy’s Chief Executive Officer and inventor of the technology, Mr. Christopher Amabi, said the rollout represents a decisive shift toward sustainable, affordable, and dependable electricity for Nigeria’s industrial, commercial, and residential sectors, especially in underserved and off-grid communities.

According to Amabi, the PCRD system operates through a closed-loop hydraulic process that generates force without fuel combustion, emissions, or mechanical noise, eliminating the pollution, high operating costs, and reliability concerns associated with conventional generators.

“The core of this technology is conversion and regeneration. The hydraulic liquid does not combust; rather, it generates force that is converted into electricity and then regenerated in a continuous cycle. This allows uninterrupted power generation without environmental harm or fuel dependency,” he explained.

Designed for versatility, the technology can generate electricity from 50 kilowatts to 10,000 megawatts, making it adaptable for a wide range of users, including manufacturing plants, hospitals, estates, universities, data centres, commercial hubs, and state power projects.

Beyond its technical innovation, DMCA Energy is also introducing a business model aimed at reducing the financial burden of power infrastructure on consumers.

Instead of purchasing the machines outrightly, customers will access electricity through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) arrangement, under which DMCA installs and maintains the system while users pay only for energy consumed.

Amabi said this approach removes the heavy capital investment typically required for generators or solar installations, enabling businesses and communities to access stable power at significantly lower tariffs.

“This is a two-in-one system that provides both primary and backup power. In a country where outages are frequent and backup systems unreliable, PCRD eliminates that uncertainty,” he said.

As part of an initial pilot phase, he said DMCA has made 100 PCRD units available for immediate deployment to early subscribers, targeting energy-intensive users such as factories, hospitals, industrial estates, and commercial centres.

To build public confidence, DMCA disclosed that the technology has undergone extensive technical evaluations and independent certification.

According to the company, the PCRD system has been tested and validated by the Faculty of Engineering, University of Lagos, and the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON).

Amabi added that the Lagos State Government also examined the innovation and recommended further independent testing before nationwide deployment.

“The feedback and certifications we received were crucial. They confirmed the scientific principles and operational efficiency of the machine, giving us the confidence to proceed with full-scale deployment,” he said.

Tracing the evolution of the technology, Amabi said conceptual work began in 2001, with the first prototype developed in Abuja in 2009. A more advanced version was later built and deployed in South Africa in 2019, where it has reportedly operated continuously for over five years.

“This has been a 20-year journey of research, testing, and refinement. Bringing this innovation home is both a personal milestone and a national commitment,” he noted.

Reacting to the unveiling, National President of NACCIMA, Dr. Jani Ibrahim, described the technology as potentially transformative, urging further validation to ensure industry-wide confidence.

“Reliable electricity is the backbone of industrial growth. Any innovation that can sustainably solve Nigeria’s power problem has the potential to unlock massive economic value. Independent proof-of-concept testing will help deepen trust and accelerate adoption,” Ibrahim said.

He added that dependable power supply remains critical to Nigeria’s industrial competitiveness and investment drive, particularly in support of President Bola Tinubu’s ambition of building a $1 trillion economy by 2030.

With millions of Nigerians still lacking access to reliable electricity and businesses spending vast sums annually on diesel and petrol generators, stakeholders believe that scalable renewable solutions such as PCRD could redefine Nigeria’s energy future.

As DMCA Energy begins phased national deployment, expectations are high that the innovation could mark a major turning point—cutting energy costs, boosting productivity, and reshaping the country’s economic trajectory.
