A Lagos-based content creator, Onyinyechi Nwachukwu, has raised concern over the return of long queues at a Bus Rapid Transit terminal in Elepe, Ikorodu, questioning the sustainability of recent improvements in the transport system.
In a video shared on social media, Nwachukwu, popularly known as Darkskinned Ella, showed a large crowd of commuters waiting at the terminal around 6:30 a.m. on Monday, with only one bus reportedly available to convey passengers.
“These people don tire me! Mondays are always hectic that’s why I had to check myself and then the long queue again. @lamataonline the many buses that were provided Thursday and Friday, was it just for show?” she captioned the video.
Speaking in the clip, she said, “Good morning Nigerians, I got here by 6 a.m. and right now the time is currently 6:30 a.m. We are in the same situation, no bus. We actually thought this change was permanent, what happened?”
The content creator expressed frustration over the situation, questioning whether the buses deployed earlier in the week were only a temporary measure.
The Bus Rapid Transit system in Lagos is managed by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority.
“So on Thursday and Friday it was just for face, is that what it is? Just one bus that is here, just one bus out of the whole crowd,” she stated.
Nwachukwu, who arrived at the terminal by 6 a.m., documented the ordeal as part of her online series, “100 Days BRT Challenge,” which sheds light on Lagos’ public transportation challenges.
