Kafanchan (Kaduna State) Feb.12, 2025 (NAN) Sen. Sunday Katung (APC-Kaduna South) has secured a five-year medical equipment support worth over N8billion naira for no fewer than 10 hospitals in his Senatorial District from a US-based humanitarian organisation, Project C.U.R.E.
Speaking after a needs assessment visit to five General Hospitals in the zone, Katung explained that the intervention was designed to enhance healthcare delivery and bridge critical gaps in medical infrastructure across the senatorial district.
“I sought this intervention in response to the dire need of equipment in our hospitals after I visited some of them.
“Seeing people die of things that they shouldn’t die of prompted me to do the needful since these things are needed,” he added
According to the lawmaker, the facilities inspected would serve as template for the remaining five general hospitals to benefit from the first batch of the intervention.
The Team Lead of Project CURE, Rose Polycarp, said that the needs assessment was necessary to ensure that the equipment supplied is tailored to the specific demands of each facility.
She commended Katung for initiating the collaboration and reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting sustainable healthcare development in the district over the next five years.
Polycarp disclosed that the medical equipment are expected to be delivered within three to six months.
In their separate remarks, the Executive Chairmen of Zangon Kataf and Jema’a Local Government Areas, Bege Gaiya and Peter Tanko, respectively, applauded the Senator for facilitating the intervention.
They stressed that the intervention marked a significant step toward addressing longstanding deficiencies in the health sector and improving access to quality healthcare for communities across Southern Kaduna.
Other stakeholders who spoke described the initiative as a responsive representation that prioritises the welfare of constituents.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the hospitals visited for the assessment included General Hospitals in Kagarko, Kachia, Sanga, Kafanchan and Zonkwa.
Project C.U.R.E is an international humanitarian organisation based in the United States of America, known for supporting healthcare systems through the provision of medical equipment, medical supplies and capacity-building programmes. (NAN)
