NPFL: Mixed fortunes as Abia Warriors maintain form, Enyimba struggle

Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia is now six matches unbeaten in the Nigerian Premier Football League, NPFL, moving to second in the table behind leaders Rivers United, who have 41 points.

Abia Warriors’ 1-0 victory over Kano Pillars on Sunday took them to 37 points from the  21 matches played.

The Umuahia team, coached by Imama Amakapabo, had before the Kano Pillars victory, drawn 1-1 with table toppers Rivers United in Umuahia before beating Khun Khalifat FC 1-0 in Owerri.

The team also beat Warri Wolves 1-0 in Umuahia, beat Plateau 1-0 away in Jos before drawing 1-1 with Plateau United in Umuahia, in the return fixture.

However,  former African Champions, Enyimba of Aba, have not been convincing in their performances since the start of the season despite making signings in pre-season.

On Sunday, Enyimba’s match with Barau FC ended goalless to the disappointment of the Aba fans.

But fans of the Aba-based club are confident that the appointment of a new Technical Adviser, Ayodeji Ayeni, by the Enyimba management could quickly arrest the slump and return the team to winning ways.
