The Nigerian government is planning to scrap the Common Entrance Examination for junior secondary school students.
Instead, they will introduce a Learner Identification Number.
This number will help track students throughout their education, starting from primary school up to secondary school.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, during while speaking with journalists in Lagos.
Alausa explained that the Common Entrance Exam will be gradually removed and replaced with a better system called Continuous Assessment, or CA.
He said, “The CA will show how well a student has done from primary one.
“Even if a student moves schools, they can take their CA with them to the new school.”
Alausa also said this new system will help fix problems in moving from primary to secondary school, especially since many students don’t move on to the next level.
