Nemsia studios unveils ‘SuperNowa’, set for premiere January 9

Nemsia Studios has announced the release of SuperNowa, a gripping coming-of-age drama that examines brilliance, silence, and the quiet resolve required to navigate a world that often demands too much, too quickly.

The film is set to premiere and stream exclusively on Prime Video from January 9, 2026, across Africa and select international territories.

Written and directed by Sonia Irabor, SuperNowa follows Nowa, a gifted young girl struggling under the weight of expectations, social anxiety, and the emotional solitude that frequently accompanies being labelled “special.” The narrative delivers a poignant and unvarnished portrait of adolescence.

“This film is deeply personal. We don’t talk enough about the emotional weight that young people carry, especially when they’re praised for being extraordinary. SuperNowa is about the cost of that silence, and the beauty of choosing yourself,” Director Sonia Irabor said.

The film features Darasimi Nadi, Nonzo Bassey, Onyinye Odokoro, Bimbo Manuel, Carol King, Harriet Akinola, Riyo David, and Korede Lawal, supported by a strong ensemble cast.

Shot by renowned cinematographer Ola Cardoso, SuperNowa showcases production design by Adekunle “Blue” Adejuyigbe, costume design by Temitope Ajibola, and editing by Ayomikun Oteju. Visual effects were handled by Omosalewa Fafowora, with colour grading by Daniel de Villiers.

The film was co-produced by Ajike Adesokan and executive produced by Nemsia Studios, the creative team behind acclaimed titles including Breath of Life, Soft Love, Suky, and The Fire and The Moth.
