Kaduna Govt. Partners Traditional Leaders To Boost Health Insurance
The Kaduna State Contributory Health Management Authority (KADCHMA) is intensifying collaboration with traditional institutions to increase enrolment in the state health insurance scheme by 30 per cent.
Malam Abubakar Hassan, KADCHMA Director-General, disclosed this during a Sallah homage visit to the Emir of Zazzau, Malam Ahmed Bamalli, on Monday in Zaria, emphasising strengthened partnerships with local leaders.
Hassan said the visit also felicitated the emirate council on the successful completion of Ramadan and Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, while reinforcing cooperation to expand insurance coverage, particularly among informal sector workers.
He emphasised that about 10 per cent of Kaduna State’s population was currently enrolled, and the authority aimed to reach an additional 30 per cent in coming years through awareness campaigns and community engagement.
“It is our hope that philanthropists and well-meaning individuals will support the initiative by enrolling more vulnerable persons into the scheme,” Hassan said, highlighting government-led efforts to expand coverage.
He added that Gov. Uba Sani had sponsored more than 70,000 vulnerable individuals, urging others to complement the effort by supporting more residents to access affordable health services.
Hassan explained that an annual premium of N10,650, equivalent to about N30 per day, granted residents access to quality healthcare across accredited facilities in the state.
He emphasised the governor’s commitment to human capital development through deepening community engagement and expanding health insurance coverage statewide to improve healthcare outcomes.
According to Hassan, engagement with the Emir of Zazzau, emirate council members, and 33 district heads aim to strengthen grassroots awareness across 11 local government areas under the emirate.
He appreciated the emirate council for mobilising district heads and supporting KADCHMA’s sensitisation efforts, which were crucial for boosting participation in the health insurance scheme.
Hassan announced that the Emir of Zazzau was inaugurated as KADCHMA Ambassador for Informal Sector Enrollment in recognition of his support and leadership in the initiative.
Earlier, the Emir of Zazzau, Malam Ahmed Bamalli, commended KADCHMA and the state government, describing the annual premium as affordable and capable of reducing maternal and infant mortality rates.
The royal father urged residents to enrol in the scheme, noting it would lower out-of-pocket medical costs while improving access to quality, affordable healthcare services throughout the emirate.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
