A Nigerian father, Arogundade Adewale, has expressed his gratitude and pride after his daughter, a serving Youth Service member, presented him with her first salary ‘allawee’.
The emotional moment was captured in a video shared on TikTok, where the young lady, dressed in her NYSC uniform, was seen kneeling before her father to hand over her earnings.
In the video, Adewale took N7,000 from the total amount and returned the balance to his daughter, showering her with blessings and prayers.
He captions the post, “My daughter brought her first NYSC salary to me,” adding in Yoruba, “Ounje omo ni,” which translates to “This is the fruit of my labour.”
This heart-warming tradition is rooted in Nigerian culture, where children honor their parents with their first earnings, seeking blessings and expressing gratitude.
The practice was famously advocated by Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo, who encouraged Nigerians to prioritise giving their first salary to their fathers for blessings.
