Social media personality and cancer patient, AuntieEsther, has died after rejecting a blood transfusion recommended by doctors as part of her treatment.
An X user, #AUNTYMUSE_, who was close to her and supported her throughout her treatment journey, confirmed her demise.
Reacting to a post announcing AuntieEsther’s death by an X user, Tabuko, tweeting as swaggsphotos, wrote, “Unfortunately, we lost Aunty Esther. Very Sad!” #AUNTYMUSE_ wrote, “May her soul rest in peace.”
Auntie Esther, whose real name is Mensah Omolola, had been battling breast cancer and had sparked nationwide debate after publicly rejecting a blood transfusion, citing her faith as a Jehovah’s Witness.
Despite receiving over N30 million in donations, she opted for alternative treatments to boost her blood count without transfusion.
The controversy surrounding her treatment drew significant attention, with some Nigerians questioning the decision to reject life-saving medical advice while accepting public donations.
Others defended her right to make healthcare decisions based on her faith.
The fundraising, coordinated by charity advocate Wizarab10, raised N30.7 million as of December 1, 2025.
AuntieEsther had expressed gratitude for the support, saying, “I appreciate everybody. Thank you, Wizarab10 and the_beardsina. God bless.”
Her passing has sparked an outpouring of condolences and reflections on the complexities of faith, healthcare, and public philanthropy.
