APC support groups council dismisses anxiety over electronic transmission debate

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Support Groups Council has rejected claims that the ruling party is unsettled by ongoing controversies surrounding the inclusion of electronic transmission of election results in the Electoral Act.

The Director-General of the Council, Sadiq Abubakar Jikta, stated this in Abuja during the inauguration of executive members of the APC National Assembly Legislative Aides Support Group (ANALAG).

Jikta maintained that the party remains focused and confident ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“APC is not panicking. It is the opposition that is worried because they believe the APC, as the party in power, will outmatch them. We are operating transparently and ensuring a level playing field for all political parties,” he said.

He absolved the party of responsibility for the controversy, stressing that decisions on electronic transmission fall within the purview of the National Assembly.

“On electronic transmission, it is for the National Assembly to carry out its constitutional duty. Whatever position the legislature adopts, we are prepared. Our priority remains grassroots mobilisation,” he added.

Ahead of the party’s national convention scheduled for next month, Jikta disclosed that the Council is seeking formal representation in the APC’s National Working Committee (NWC).

He noted that support groups were not originally recognised in the party’s constitution but expressed optimism that the ongoing constitutional review would institutionalise them as a core structure within the party.

“The party inaugurated a constitutional review committee that has conducted public hearings across the six geopolitical zones. As the APC Support Groups Council, we made submissions advocating inclusion and representation in the National Working Committee,” he said.

Jikta revealed that the Council is proposing the creation of a National Mobilisation Secretary position to strengthen grassroots engagement.

Commending the leadership and members of ANALAG, he said the emergence of structured support groups reflects increasing public confidence in the APC.

“The formation of organised groups like this strengthens the party. It shows expanding support and readiness among members to contribute meaningfully,” he stated.

He added that the newly inaugurated legislative aides group has been incorporated into the party’s mobilisation framework for the 2027 elections and tasked members nationwide with driving grassroots engagement.

In her remarks, ANALAG National Coordinator, Ambassador Ayoola Ronke Fakunle, said the group was formed out of a commitment to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and lawmakers seeking re-election.

“We have Legislative Aides at the National Assembly. We have at the State Assembly. We have at the local government. So, National Assembly Legislative Aides is like everywhere you go. It’s everywhere you go, not even like everywhere you go. So, we are in each poly unit. So, we are mobilising people with their PVC. We encourage people to go and get their PVCs before you can be a member. You must show your PVC. And show that you are a member of APC. 

“Because the purpose is to make sure that our principals, we support them for their re-election, and we support our dear president, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a former senator. So, he’s wearing two caps. Because a former senator and now our president, father of the nation. So, we are going all out for him to make sure we secure that four years.

“And also our principals from various states, local governments, and state assemblies. We have our members everywhere currently.So, we don’t have fear. Our group is so unique. We are not looking for… It’s not as if because we are preparing for election, then we start forming this group.It’s already in existence.”
