As the world marks Women’s Month, Nigerian singer Reekado Banks has shifted the spotlight from music to fatherhood, sharing personal reflections on raising a son and honouring women.
The artist, known for his emotive songwriting and calm persona, said one of his greatest responsibilities is nurturing a boy who understands and respects the value of women.
“One of the greatest responsibilities I have is raising a son who understands the value of women,” he stated.
According to him, his life and career have been shaped by the strength of women — from those who raised him to those who support his journey and the woman he loves.
Reflecting on his experiences, Reekado noted that strength is not always expressed loudly. He described it as sacrifice, patience and resilience, often unnoticed but deeply impactful.
The singer said Women’s Month, for him, goes beyond public celebration. Instead, it calls for deliberate action and cultural change.
“If I’m going to call myself a leader, then I must raise leaders. And that begins with teaching my son to honour women — not just in words, but in action,” he said.
Reekado added that fatherhood has refined his outlook on life and responsibility. While acknowledging the weight that comes with leadership and parenting, he said growth comes with accepting responsibility and recognising the contributions of women.
Rather than symbolic gestures, the artist emphasised consistent respect, protection and empowerment as meaningful ways to celebrate women.
“Women’s Month shouldn’t be noisy. It should be culture,” he concluded.
