Joeboy laments rising hurdles for emerging artists in music industry

Afrobeats singer Joeboy has raised concerns about the growing challenges faced by emerging artists trying to break into the mainstream music industry.

In a recent interview with Jay On Air, the singer said the process of gaining recognition has become more demanding in recent years, largely due to the increasing influence of social media.

According to him, while talent and strong branding were once enough to attract attention, artists now require a robust online presence and must actively promote themselves on platforms such as TikTok.

Joeboy noted that the industry’s evolving dynamics mean upcoming artists must now balance music creation with digital visibility to remain competitive.

“I genuinely feel for artists that are trying to go mainstream right now because unlike before, it takes a lot more and it now depends on your personality and all of that. Because right now you have to be on everybody’s faces and all of that.

“Back then, if you have a great music, a great brand behind you and great marketing, the chances of you popping up was really higher. But now, it demands way more than that,” he said.
