121st Anniversary: Rotary Screens 500 Residents In Jos

The Rotary Club International, District 9127, says it has conducted free medical screening for 500 residents of Jos as part of activities marking its 121st anniversary.

Mr Owolabi Folaranmi, Assistant Governor, Rotary Club of Jos, Tin city and State Coordinator Rotary Day Celebration (RODAC) said this on Monday in Jos.

He said that the initiative was aimed at promoting preventive healthcare and supporting vulnerable members of the community.

He said the screening was designed to help residents detect health conditions early and seek appropriate medical attention.

According to Folaranmi, Rotary remains committed to humanitarian service and improving the wellbeing of people through community based interventions.

The beneficiaries commended the Rotary Club for the gesture, describing the programme as timely, especially in view of the rising cost of healthcare.

Miss Justina Abel, one of the beneficiaries, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), commended the club for embarking on an impactful initiative that would enable people know their health status without incurring any cost.

Similarly, Miss Promise John said the free screening would enable indigent residents to know their health status without any financial burden.

She appealed that the gesture be replicated by more organisations.

Mr Godwin Yohanna , another beneficiary, said the exercise showed the club’s genuine concern for the health of members of the community.

NAN reports that the free medical screening provided beneficiaries with access to basic healthcare services, such as blood pressure checks, and blood sugar tests.

Others are eye examinations, hepatitis and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) checks, general medical consultations, free medications and referrals.

NAN also reports that Rotary International, founded on Feb. 23, 1905, is a global humanitarian organisation focused on disease prevention, health promotion, peace building, and community development.

It has service, fellowship, diversity, integrity and leadership as its core values.(NAN)
