The African Democratic Congress, ADC, faction led by Nafiu Bala Gombe has rejected a membership campaign drive initiated by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other members of the opposition coalition.
The ADC faction asked the party’s members to stay watchful.
In a statement released by Director of Media and Public Affairs, Dr. Christopher Okechukwu, the ADC camp said the development was an illegal effort to weaken their proper leadership.
The faction declared that any membership cards issued through the process are not valid.
The statement read, The party wants to clearly say that any membership cards or group connections given by these people are not valid and have no real meaning.
“The ADC sees the actions of these coalition members as a clear effort to take over the party from its rightful leaders, and their sense of desperation is very noticeable.
“The party is warning its members and the public to be careful of these people, who are trying to take over the party during the day.
“The ADC strongly rejects these actions and tells everyone to ignore any membership cards or group memberships that are claimed to be given by these people, who are considered to be involved in illegal and unauthorized activities.
“Members are asked to stay alert and let the right people know if they see any such actions. The leaders of ADC want to let former Vice President Atiku Abubakar know that his efforts to decide the party’s position on who can be president without following the proper steps are not acceptable.
“The ADC said that any decisions about the party’s internal issues, like who can run for president, will be made according to the party’s rules and through fair, democratic ways.
“The party makes it clear that the ADC is a separate organization, not something controlled by one person where their own goals take priority over what the group as a whole agrees on.
“Therefore, decisions about the party’s internal matters, like where the presidency is located, will be made by the party’s proper leaders and members, without any outside control or instructions.
“The party will not allow anyone to push their own ideas or control how the party handles its own matters. The ADC leaders will keep working for the good of the party and its members, following the party’s rules and democratic ways.”
