2027: Growing political activities will not hinder delivery of governance – Wike
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has insisted that growing political activities linked to the 2027 general elections will not hinder the delivery of major infrastructure projects in Abuja.
Wike made the statement on Wednesday during an on-the-spot assessment of ongoing construction works in different parts of the capital city, reaffirming his resolve to prioritize projects that directly benefit residents.
According to the minister, he has the capacity to balance political engagements with the responsibilities of his office, maintaining that his foremost obligation is to serve the people of the FCT.
He explained that politics and governance operate on different tracks, adding that his role as FCT Minister demands uninterrupted attention to development and service delivery.
Wike further stated that election-related activities would not delay project implementation, noting that consistent oversight and prompt settlement of contractors’ payments are key to sustaining progress.
“I assure you, politics is not going to affect my work. The only way it will affect work is to make people happy by ensuring that the Renewed Hope Agenda is real and working,” he said.
While reviewing the projects, the minister expressed satisfaction with construction on the road linking Baze University, the Body of Benchers, Nile University and the Wupa Light Rail Station in the Idu district.
He revealed that the contractor has committed to completing the road by May, in time for its commissioning to commemorate President Bola Tinubu’s third year in office.
Wike also inspected the Body of Benchers extension building, commending the quality and pace of work.
He noted that the structure is nearing completion at about 80 per cent, with landscaping remaining the final stage.
The minister also assessed the progress of a 7-kilometre road connecting the Airport Road to Tunga Madaki and surrounding communities.
He said the project reflects the FCT Administration’s pledge to improve road access and integrate more communities into the capital’s transport network.
He subsequently instructed that steps be taken to extend the road to Zuba, as part of efforts to further enhance connectivity across the territory.
